How will Christmas affect my ecommerce website?

Christmas is almost here yet again. If you have an ecommerce website, your business has a huge chance of booming for the Christmas market. Why? Because it is the season of gift giving and your products just might be the gifts that so many people are looking to give.

What does my ecommerce website need?

When creating your website design, we always recommend that you have a blog – having a blog gives your website the advantages of expert content, search engine ranking and a professional look and feel.

There are plenty of blogs out there, all wanting the world’s attention so it is crucial that you stand out from the crowd. The key points that make a successful blog are it being creative, fun and clever.

Your ecommerce website checklist

  1. Offer holiday promotions – everyone loves a bargain, especially in the run up to Christmas. We know the sales happen after Christmas, but how cool is it to stand out before Christmas and offer promotions that will up your sales. Promotions you could offer are bogof, percentage based discounts, free delivery or reduced delivery or offer reward points
  2. Offer gifts to inspire customers to purchase larger items – everyone loves something for nothing and offering a small gift from your business is a great way to boost your reputability and get your customers to purchase from you.
  3. Make your website look Christmas ready – along with having a great design all year round, there is an advantage to making your website have a festive feel in the run up to Christmas. This shows you are taking Christmas seriously and want your customers to buy from you. Change your pages to contain a Christmas feel – this could include a layer of snow, a spring of holly or a Christmas hat.
  4. Make sure your checkout is super easy to go through – nobody likes a hard to use website that takes ages to load or takes ages to bag and pay for the item they want. It would be easier to go to a different website. Also don't forget to have engaging product descriptions.
  5. Create a festive video – video is such an essential way to reach the internet users of today. 3 out of 4 users would rather watch a video about a product than read a description of it. Did you know that by 2020, 80% of all internet traffic will be videos? Creating a simple festive video is great for booming your business.
  6. Offer a gift-wrapping service for your products
  7. Give details of your delivery and returns policies – make these details easily available on your website. Make your last delivery date obvious with an ‘Order within DD:HH:MM for Christmas Delivery’ countdown feature that is clearly visible on your website on all pages.
  8. Make sure your website is fully responsive and it adapts to fit all devices. If your website does not show up correctly on a mobile phone, you may as well cancel Christmas (bah humbug!)
  9. Sell on Christmas Day – with a rise in Christmas Day sales the past few years – you could offer a Christmas Day discount for those eager beavers who want to spend their Christmas money or vouchers. Send out a discount code on Christmas morning
